Wartburg

The Wartburg is probably the most famous German castle. In the 12th century it was the scene of the legendary singing competition with Walther von der Vogelweide and shortly afterwards the residence of Saint Elisabeth. Martin Luther found protection and inspiration for the translation of the New Testament here in 1521. In 1817 the German fraternities met within its walls for the Wartburg Festival, later they inspired Wagner to write his romantic opera "Tannhäuser".

Today the Wartburg, which was brought back to life in the 19th century, invites you to visit the medieval palace and the museum and is at the same time an event location with a unique atmosphere and magnificent view.
