Fulda Castle Park

The palace garden is equally popular with visitors and residents of Fulda and forms a green oasis in the middle of the city. The spacious palace garden, surrounded by walls and bars, consists of several parts: the palace and orangery terrace, the parterre in between with the large fountain and the former bosquet garden, which stretches to the east.

The history of the castle garden goes back to the early 18th century. In 1715, Prince Abbot Constantin von Buttlar leveled the old zoo, which was on the same site, in order to create a baroque garden with an orangery to match his new residence. The Waidesbach, which flows through the park, was channeled into an underground channel and the baroque palace garden was created according to Maximilian von Welsch's redesign plans. Welsch had the axes created between the palace and the orangery and the side wall opened with a lattice gate. Fountains, grottos and water basins as well as stone garden sculptures - including the famous flora vase on the outside staircase to the orangery - complete the baroque garden space.
