City archive

The basis is the written legacy of the market, which has grown since the late Middle Ages. The town archive continuously takes over documents worthy of archiving from the town administration and thus documents the history of the town centre over seven centuries. Private donations such as estates, association archives, photographs or postcards supplement the official records. One highly interesting contemporary document is the 900 or so drawings and watercolours by the lawyer Friedrich Wilhelm Doppelmayr dating from 1808 to 1816. Another special feature is the scientific archive library with some 20,000 volumes which, in addition to the literature on Rosenheim, covers a wide range of subjects from Bavarian regional history and geography to the history of culture, art, the church and literature. In about 3,000 linear metres of archive material there is something for many interested parties. Whether for official, scientific, local history, family history, legal, private or journalistic purposes, the documents can be viewed free of charge in the city archive on presentation of an identity card. Our staff will be happy to help you with the search for sources.
