Schlüchtern

Schlüchtern is a modern town, but some streets still reveal the structure of the medieval town, for example the pretty little alleys in the town center (Schmiedsgasse and Linsengasse). Especially the historic town hall and the town church of St. Michael and the Benedictine monastery form an appealing ensemble in the core town.
The district of Vollmerz with Ramholz Castle, the associated castle park and Steckelberg Castle or Brandenstein Castle in the district of Elm are worthwhile destinations for excursions with the whole family.
A varied, charming landscape with the beautiful course of the Kinzig River, small streams, meadows, fields and forests invites you to take relaxing walks and hikes.
In the immediate vicinity, the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, the Spessart Nature Park and the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park attract visitors, as do the charming towns of Steinau, Bad Soden-Salmünster, Gelnhausen (imperial palace) and Fulda (cathedral city).
Further away, but still easily accessible, the cities of Frankfurt and Hanau or Darmstadt and Würzburg attract with their diverse cultural offerings.
Signposted hiking trails of various lengths invite you to explore the surroundings (hiking maps are available at the town hall).
The Hessian cycle path R 3 starts in Rüdesheim am Rhein, follows the rivers Rhine, Main and Kinzig through Schlüchtern and further over the Distelrasen to Fulda, and finally ends in Tann/Rhön.
The Donkey Trail, a popular hiking route through the beautiful Spessart region, leads from Schlüchtern in the footsteps of ancient merchant travelers to Großheubach on the Main River and from there on to the salt-rich regions of Baden Württemberg. The trail leads mainly through dense Spessart forests, past stone piles and historic sites, and is also a popular route for touring cyclists.
The German Fairy Tale Route runs here, along the course of which many magnificently designed churches, monasteries and secular buildings with their art treasures invite you to visit.
Whether you are a business traveler, a tourist or a guest passing through, the city of Schlüchtern is happy to welcome you as a guest. A gastronomy meeting all requirements and modern hotels and inns, but also comfortable guest rooms or vacation apartments make a pleasant stay possible.
