The Three Castles Trail

In the intersection the small town of Schlüchtern - the starting point of this hike. It is worth visiting the town center, which is worth seeing, with its picturesque alleys and half-timbered houses. The first castle on the way is Brandenstein. It is inhabited, but the museum can be visited only by appointment. The ruins of Steckelberg, dating back to the 14th century and the birthplace of the controversial humanist and poet Ullrich von Hutten, can only be visited from the outside. The third in the group is the Schwarzenfels ruin, also privately owned and maintained by the Schwarzenfels Knights' Association at weekends and during knight festivals. On the Drei-Burgen-Weg (Three Castles Trail), forest roads, partly paved with rustic paths, alternate with sections through closed forest with magnificent views.
