The documentation center Prora in the plant of the planned "KdF-Seebad Rügen"
The Prora Documentation Center is located in the complex of the planned "KdF-Seebad Rügen" in Prora, known as "Koloss von Rügen". Prora belongs to the Baltic Sea resort of Binz and is located on the Prorer Wiek, the most beautiful bay on the island of Rügen. Here the approximately 4.7 km long plant was commissioned by the "NS-Gemeinschaftskraft durch Freude" between 1936 and 1939 and largely completed.

The complex is under monument protection. In addition to the "Reichsparteitagsgelände" ("Reichsparteitagsgelände") in Nuremberg, it is the largest closed architectural legacy of the National Socialist era. 20,000 people should be on holiday at the same time. The "KdF Bath of the Twentieth" is not only an interesting example of the use of modern architecture in national socialism, but also a social-historical testimony to the efforts of the Nazi regime, the workers, whose parties and organizations had been smashed in 1933 , And to win over the war, habitat and racial policy. The "nerves of the people" were to be strengthened for the next war, so an alleged quotation from Hitler's propaganda was surprisingly widespread.

Since 1992, the NEUE KULTUR Foundation has been dealing with the former "KdF seaside resort of the twentieth century" and since 1994 has conducted a series of meetings and symposia, some of which are international.
The aim was and is to preserve Prora as a historical monument and to develop and use it in a manner appropriate to its historical importance and regional requirements. The Foundation opened the Prora Documentation Center in 2000 to close a gap in the Federal Republic's memory landscape. In 2012 the Verein Dokumentationszentrum Prora e.V.
It is currently showing the permanent exhibition MAKER HOLIDAY, which was realized in the years 2003 and 2004 under the program Culture 2000 of the European Union with partners from Poland, the Czech Republic, Holland and Austria. The exhibition places Prora and the state organization of leisure in national socialism in the power-political framework and thereby contributes to the destruction of long-lived myths around national socialism.
This documentation is accompanied by interchanges with themes on history, architecture, art, nature and politics.
