Sandstone and Fairytale Caves

With an area of 65,000 m² and more than 2500 supporting columns, the Walldorf Sandstone and Fairytale Cave is considered one of the largest show caves in Europe. This unique world was created by the winning of fine-grained sand that was used as gritting and scrubbing sand. The guided tour of the cave presents a vivid picture of the life and work of the sandmakers. And a trip to the Fairytale Cave is fascinating for children too, since some 30 lovingly designed pictures of well-known fairytales by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Ludwig Bechstein make the visit a memorable experience.
