Saalfeld Fairy Caves

A beautiful day with miner and fairy!
In the middle of Thuringia, the green heart of Germany, deep inside the earth - lies an enchanting kingdom - the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes. Many centuries ago the miners mined black alum slate here. This is how the underground cavities and galleries were created. When mining ceased, nature transformed the mine into a fairytale underground world - colourful stalactites and shimmering grotto lakes welcome visitors today.  

The forest above the show caves is home to elves and fairies, trolls and forest spirits. Young and old can have a fantastic time in the Fairy World Adventure Forest. There is a lot to discover on the journey through the magical realms to the fairy-top castle.

The Grottoneum is an ideal place for those who are curious. Here in the adventure exhibition you can explore the creation of the fairy grottos, grow stalactites and view valuable minerals up close. At numerous knowledge and participation stations you can become a discoverer yourself.
