Rennsteig Track

or almost sixty kilometers we are on a journey through time. When "our grandfathers" had the idea of building a railway line across the almost 800 meter high mountain range of the Thuringian Forest, they were certainly considered crazy. However, using the then cutting-edge rack and pinion technology, they were able to literally move mountains, transporting people and goods over and up the mountain on rails rather than around them. The following generations further developed the vehicles so that rack and pinion technology was no longer needed. And although steam locomotives have largely been replaced by diesel locomotives over the decades, we are still amazed at the performance of these vehicles. Modern electrical technology has so far had no chance in the mountains. That's why durable and robust vehicles are still used on the Rennsteigbahn today - be it for freight transport or travel. We have set ourselves the goal of preserving this for our children and therefore invite you to continue using the good old Rennsteigbahn.
